Keep Homewood Public

The effort to keeping Homewood Mountain Resort public for all residents!

To put it simply, Cindy accepted donations from JMA Ventures (JMA), who along with Discovery Land Company (DLC), is trying to privatize Homewood Mountain Resort (see donation reports below). Cindy has never denounced the privatization nor publicly stated she will not approve the proposed changes unless the public has guaranteed access in perpetuity. As a member of the TRPA and Placer County Board of Supervisors she should be protecting us from this overreach!!

The planned privatization is not aligned with, nor was it allowed in the 2011 Approved Master Plan, the JMA/DLC effort severely deviates from years of community input and the strong desire to redevelop the ski mountain for all community members to enjoy. JMA and DLC have also departed from the approved style of “classic old Tahoe lodges” and has begun building ultra-modern units that don’t fit the charm or character of the West Shore.

This is not an issue of stopping development by the community… rather, it is about keeping a community treasure open to the public for all to enjoy as approved in 2011. The group known as Keep Homewood Public (KHP) galvanized when DLC became involved and Art Chapman of JMA publicly stated, along with a new partner Mohari Hospitality, that they would be privatizing the resort for their exclusive members. Memberships at other DLC properties are estimated to be $500,000 to join and ~$75,000 a year in fees, our local community can’t afford this, only the ultra-rich can!!

Homewood Mountain Resort (HMR) has been open to the public since 1962 and is a cherished recreation area for thousands of families. For years HMR has been a wonderful place for locals and visitors alike to enjoy the wonderful views, great skiing and come together as a community. Now JMA/DLC/Mohari want to make HMR a member’s only resort catering to the ultra-rich just like their other properties Yellowstone Club, CordeValle Golf Resort and Scotland Taymouth estate along with many others.

DLC is using the same tactics they used to completely privatize CordeValle when they wore down the county’s elected officials over years until they ultimately got what they wanted. Santa Clara County made the mistake of not defining public access and now the public is blocked from using the wonderful site originally permitted for use by the public. The same thing will happen to Homewood Mountain Resort if TRPA and the Placer County Board of Supervisors don’t stop it now and mandate the definition of public access for perpetuity! WHY HASN’T CINDY PUSHED BACK TO DEMAND THE PUBLIC ACCESS DEFINITION?? Is it because of the donations she received, did the donations to her campaign elicit favor? That’s for you to decide after doing your research. As a community there is very little faith that Cindy will support the effort to keep Homewood public for all!! We need a supervisor who, on day one in office, will publicly denounce the DLC effort and keep HMR open to the public.

Here is a write-up taken from the KHP public website, more information can be found there, this clearly lays out the DLC Strategy and Gameplan to take advantage of the Lake Tahoe Community just like they did to Santa Clara County: https://www.keephomewoodpublic.com/media-coverage
